Over the last couple years, I have talked with a lot of people and a lot of clients about how important it is to infuse personality into branding, marketing and especially PR. To me, it just makes sense. No one really wants to connect with a “grey box, faceless” corporation. People like other people damn it.

Beyond this, people like other people who have some spice and zest. This helps explain why I tend to wear fun blue argyle shoes.

A couple of months ago, I was very pleased to see that a very smart man named Rohit Bhargava (check his blog here) had written a book about this topic. The book is called “Personality Not Included.” Buy it here and make sure the next thing you do includes personality.

To be more open, I was kind of jealous of Rohit. I would have loved to write that book too. No worries though.

Social media helps brands on this journey and creates a great opportunity “to lift up your skirt a little bit and share things you might not normally.” As a funny side note, this is a quote I have used for quite a while and have recently found out that a certain Augie Ray seems to have borrowed it, recycled it and coined his own quote: “Open your robe a little bit.” Between you and me, that version is a little creepy.

Anyway, social media is a great approach and tool to carry your message and connect with people by sharing personality.

Well, Rohit has agreed to be on the Comet Branding Radio show on Wednesday, December 10th. I am personally, very interested and excited about this interview. It will be good fun. Please tune in and share in the fun.

Here is a presentation that Rohit posted on his LinkedIn profile that leads you through the making of his book (in a personal and open way – note, the photos of him and his new baby when writing the book). Give it a look.
