Social Media, Community Development + Content and Why You will Care
Lynne D. Johnson — Senior Editor and Director of Social Media + Community, FastCompany.com
Social media has become a pretty important part of many people and businesses’ lives. It’s undeniable. Over the last couple years the idea of “community manager” has developed and has been explored by Jeremiah Owyang (@jowyang) HERE and HERE (way back in 2006), by the Community Strategist – Connie Bensen (@cbensen) HERE as well as Chris Brogan (@chrisbrogan) HERE.
In a sense, I struggle with the idea of a community “manager.” Not because I don’t understand the concept. I wonder if a community can actually be managed. Maybe I’m looking at it wrong, but I’ll asking Lynne for her thoughts.
Fast Company and it’s sister publication inc. are favorites of mine. Awesome coverage of innovation and creativity in Fast Company and inc. is basically my bible as an entrepreneur. I feel that FastCompany.com has done a lot to fully leverage its web presence and I look forward to learning more about the strategies behind it and where it’s headed in our chat today.
Here’s quick video Chris Brogan got with her recently at SXSWi

Interesting show today with Lynee. I am always curious about how others are using social media. For future shows can you ask your guests about techniques that work for both large and small businesses?
Thanks.

Yes, of course. No worries. Please let me know if you have other questions or if you have topics you’d like to see covered on the show. Beyond this, there is a full-day conference on May 12th in Milwaukee called NAKEDbizgrowth (http://www.sohobiztube.com or http://nakedbizgrowth.com). It’s only $50 and it will cover many topics in social media + biz.
