Sohobiztube Presents: Comet Branding
Show #5 10/8 – Peter Shankman, Being a True Resource to the Media and Why it Matters.
On today’s show we spent time chatting with Peter Shankman, founder of the increasingly popular and free Help a Report Out (HARO) service, which is going toe-to-toe with the fee-based ProfNet.
Shankman and HARO have received significant coverage as of late, specifically in this week’s AdWeek issue where Andrew Adam Newman examined the two competing services, their interplay, who uses them and what the greater implications for both.
You can find Newman’s article, “Pick a Pro: Rivals Play Media Match Game – How two competing services are changing the way publicists park marketers in the media,” HERE
In the Comet Branding Radio interview, Shankman shares how and why he started HARO and even shared his experience when ProfNet threatened to sue him (nothing has come of that threat). If you’re looking for more on Shankman’s feelings, this quote from the AdWeek article might sum it up nicely:
Writing in the comment section of thestandard.com in July, Peter Shankman, founder of both HARO and the PR firm The Geek Factory, asked how PR Newswire would continue to justify its “exorbitant fees. I can produce the same quality and quantity, armed with nothing more than a Tassimo [coffee] machine, a Mac, two big-boned cats and one Twitter account.”
Shankman is clearly passionate about what he is doing and in the interview he shares his plans for some new services HARO will be rolling out for the next few weeks. Take a listen here:
