Social Media, Traditional Journalism and Entrepreneurs Using Twitter: An Interview with Tannette Johnson-Elie

March 18th, 2009 | By Al Krueger | Posted In: Radio Free Comet

At 11am CDT today, Tannette Johnson-Elie (@telie) will make her first appearance on the Comet Branding Radio show. Tannette has become a mainstay in the Milwaukee social media and Twitter community by diving in to the topic early. Today, we will discuss her most recent column, how traditional media is adapting to social media, entrepreneurs using Twitter and her feelings on PR.Social Media, Traditional Journalism and Entrepreneurs Using Twitter
Tannette Johnson-Elie —
Business and Networking Columnist, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

tannette-photoShe first explored Twitter in June of last year in a story called “Twitter Blends Online Networking, Instant Messaging.” I was fortunate to be included in the story and I visited the Journal Sentinel to introduce Tannette to TweetDeck and other elements of social networking and Twitter. It was a fun visit.

Since that article, Tannette has continued to be involved in Twitter and social networking. It is clear from her tweets that she uses the tool regularly to cultivate stories, find sources and promote her new columns each week. I don’t have stats, but it seems like Tannette was one of the first “traditional” journalist in the Milwaukee area to embrace twitter as a fundamental part of her work.

Today, Tannette dove into the Twitter world again with her latest column to learn and share more about how “Twitter Goes Beyond Socializing” and how entrepreneurs are using twitter to build their businesses and brands.

Beyond Tannette’s forrays into social media, she has a great story as well. Through my work I had the opportunity to interview her and write a feature story about her work and life. Please take a look at her story “Tannette Johnson-Elie, Merging Paper and New Media.

As always, this discussion during the show is open for comments, questions and feedback on Twitter.

Feel free to send them to me @alkrueger and/or use the Twitter hashtag #tannette to track today’s discussion.
