CAREER, MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION

March 7th, 2008 | By Al Krueger | Posted In: General, Uncategorized

Today has been a pretty interesting day for me. It’s been a day of “blasts from the past” that have lead me to think back to the start of my career at Hill & Knowlton and about the things, thoughts and people who motivate and inspire me.

Blast from the past #1 came when a my direct supervisor from H&K Geoffrey Pomerantz called me up in response to an email that I had sent. He has been in England for the last six years and just moved back to Chicago, so it was the first time we spoke in years.

Blast from the past #2 came when I was able to reconnect to Geoffrey and my supervisor from H&K, Maurissa Kanter. Maurissa inspired me to try to become an Account Supervisor by the time I was 30 years old. She was also very cool under fire, which was impressive as well.

This trip down memory lane, made me think about the things that inspired and motivated me back then (cycling, career success, money, etc.) and compare those to now (wife, soon-to-be-born son, building a business, creativity, happiness and happy clients).

It’s a quantum leap from 22-year-old Al to 31-year-old Al, but I’d take the me of today over the me of 1999 any day. Mostly because I’m much more comfortable in my skin today.

Do what you need to keep your inspiration and motivation evolving and growing, but don’t be too critical of the you of yesterday. Personal experience is the best teacher.
